Melaine Rude

LOCATION:   West Lanham Hills, MD

OCCUPATION:  Teacher

POSITION AT TCN:   Jr./Sr. High Social Studies

YEARS AT TCN: 1984 - 1990

YEARS AT SCS: 1991 - 1997 and 1998-1999

SINCE TCN:
I did quit teaching for a year, but then was asked to come back to SCS which I did for a year. For 2 years I worked as asst. manager at Kirlin's Hallmark in Sterling where I had worked part-time for 4 years. While full-time there I decided I needed a change. Not just job, but everything. So in 2 weeks time, I quit my 2 jobs, packed up and moved to Maryland. And I'm still here. Living in the DC metropolitan area has been awesome! For a History nut, it's the perfect place to be. Have met one former president and several government dignitaries. I'm teaching in a private school  that is very similar to TCN/SCS. I love it! I'm in my 7th year there. In addition to teaching Government, US History, World History, and Geography, I'm also the field trip coordinator. It's amazing how many of the students have never been to some of these places and have lived here their whole life. And if anyone decides to come this way on vacation, I love playing 'tour guide'.

MEMORIES OF TCN:
Memories; so many. Yes, I do remember the cubicles with the American flag and the Christian flag. And who can forget the scoring tables. I do seem to remember that one year we found a stash of score keys in the ceiling in the boys bathroom. Imagine their surprise when they went to look at them and nothing was there. LOL!  The basketball games were wonderful! So much fun! Mrs. B and I would quite often sit with the students and get to make lots of noise. I got to TCN when I enrolled my daughter in kindergarten. I figured that if Wendy Parsons was principal there; it was a good place for her. His first year of teaching was at Jordan El. School 5th grade and I was in that class. Several years later I worked for him there. When Tara went into 1st grade, he asked if I wanted to sub and teach PE. The rest is history. And I'm so thankful that we were there.
